36 MW Solar Project Powers Indonesia’s First Solar-Powered Data Center

A 36 MWp ground-mounted solar project in West Java, Indonesia, has successfully passed final acceptance, marking a major step toward commercial operation and becoming the country's first solar-powered data center project.

Built by PowerChina under an EPC contract, the project is located in the Karawang Industrial Park, about 45 km from Jakarta. It uses 720 W N-type bifacial double-glass solar modules, string inverters and fixed-tilt mounting systems.

The project covers the entire development process, including solar plant construction, power transmission facilities, grid connection and commissioning.

Once fully operational, the plant is expected to generate approximately 52 million kWh of electricity annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 42,000 tonnes per year.

The renewable power will be supplied to the park's DISM national data center, helping reduce its reliance on conventional electricity while supporting the growing demand for clean energy from Indonesia's industrial and digital infrastructure.

The project also highlights the growing potential of solar-plus-industry applications in Indonesia, as the country seeks to expand renewable energy and accelerate the transition toward a lower-carbon power system.

The successful completion of the project demonstrates how large-scale solar can support both industrial development and the rapidly growing data center sector in Southeast Asia.
