Indonesia Completes 36 MW Solar Project for Data Center
A 36 MWp ground-mounted solar project in Indonesia's West Java province has successfully passed final acceptance, marking the completion of a major renewable energy project designed to supply power to a data center.
Built by PowerChina under an EPC contract, the project is located in the Karawang Industrial Park, approximately 45 km from Jakarta. It is Indonesia's first solar project specifically developed to supply a data center.
The plant uses 720 W N-type bifacial double-glass modules, string inverters and fixed-tilt mounting systems. The EPC scope covered the complete project, including solar generation facilities, transmission lines, grid connection and commissioning.
Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate around 52 million kWh of electricity annually and cut approximately 42,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.
The electricity will supply the park's DISM national data center, helping meet the growing energy demand of Indonesia's digital infrastructure with renewable power.
The project highlights the growing role of solar energy in supporting industrial parks and data centers, while contributing to Indonesia's broader renewable energy transition.
As data center electricity demand continues to grow across Southeast Asia, the project offers a potential model for combining large-scale solar generation with energy-intensive digital infrastructure.
