Global Solar Industry Financing Surges 56% in First Half of 2026

Global investment in the solar industry continued to grow strongly in the first half of 2026, with total corporate financing reaching $16.9 billion, according to a new report from Mercom Capital Group.

The figure represents a 56% increase compared with $10.8 billion raised during the same period in 2025, driven mainly by stronger debt financing, public market activity and increased solar project transactions.

Debt and Public Market Financing Lead Growth

Debt financing became the largest source of capital during the first half of 2026. A total of 44 disclosed debt financing deals raised $13.2 billion, up 69% from $7.8 billion in the first half of 2025.

Public market financing also recorded significant growth, with 17 transactions raising $2.2 billion, a sharp increase from $467 million a year earlier.

The strong performance highlights growing investor confidence in large-scale solar development, renewable energy infrastructure and long-term clean energy demand.

M&A Activity Remains Active Despite VC Slowdown

Solar industry mergers and acquisitions continued to expand, with 57 corporate transactions completed in the first half of 2026, compared with 50 deals during the same period last year.

However, venture capital investment slowed. VC funding declined 40% year over year to $1.5 billion across 35 transactions, compared with $2.5 billion in the first half of 2025.

Despite lower funding volumes, investment activity remained focused on downstream solar companies, with 22 VC deals targeting solar developers and clean energy service providers.

Global Solar Market Attracts Long-Term Capital

The increase in overall financing reflects continued confidence in the long-term growth potential of solar energy.

While early-stage technology investments faced pressure, large-scale projects, renewable infrastructure and established solar businesses continued to attract significant capital.

As countries accelerate renewable energy deployment and strengthen energy security strategies, global solar financing is expected to remain a key driver supporting future capacity expansion and industry development.
