PV Material Prices Rise as Costs Strengthen Despite Weak Demand
Prices across several key photovoltaic materials moved higher this week, supported mainly by rising raw material costs and tight inventories. However, weak downstream demand continues to limit the upside.
EVA and PET Lead the Increase
EVA particle prices rose 1.2% this week. Higher petrochemical production costs and relatively low social inventories are expected to provide continued price support, although stable end-market demand may cap further gains.
Backsheet PET prices increased 6.5%, driven by stronger PX costs and higher crude oil prices. Rising geopolitical risk has added further cost pressure across the polyester chain.
Aluminum and Copper Also Move Higher
PV frame aluminum prices increased 1.8%, with overseas supply remaining tight and domestic inventories continuing to decline. However, slower downstream purchasing could limit the pace of further increases.
Electrolytic copper used in cables rose 0.7% as market availability remained relatively tight. Buyers are showing caution at high price levels, suggesting that copper prices may remain volatile in the short term.
PV Glass Remains Stable
PV glass prices were unchanged this week. Component manufacturers may increase procurement ahead of the upcoming holiday period, but cautious purchasing and weak production activity are expected to keep order growth limited.
Overall, PV material prices are receiving strong cost-side support, while subdued downstream demand remains the key constraint on market growth.
