The Thai Government Plans To Allocate 40 Billion Baht in Low-interest Loans To Vigorously Promote Rooftop Solar Energy Projects
According to Thai media reports, Thai Energy Minister Agner said that the Ministry of Energy is currently in discussions with the Ministry of Finance to finalize the loan framework for the energy transition project, with the main focus being on promoting the installation of rooftop solar panels by the public.
Previously, the Thai government had launched a 5 billion baht low-interest loan program for rooftop solar energy through savings banks, and this amount was quickly claimed by the public. This time, an additional 30-40 billion baht of low-interest loans have been introduced, which are open to households installing 5-10 kilowatts of rooftop photovoltaic systems. Applicants can enjoy low interest rates and be supported by a down payment plus monthly installment repayment model. The specific details will be determined based on the borrower's qualifications.
Based on the current policies, each household can only install one photovoltaic system with an installed capacity limit of 10 kilowatts. The actual investment made by citizens in installing photovoltaic systems can be used to offset personal income tax, with the maximum deduction amount being 200,000 Thai baht. This tax incentive policy is valid until December 31, 2027.
It is expected that this special loan will cover 100,000 households. After the people use the photovoltaic power, the surplus electricity can be sold to the state at a price of 2.20 Thai baht per kilowatt-hour.
