India: 42.5GW of New Photovoltaic Capacity To Be Added by 2026

According to JMK Research projections, India is expected to add approximately 42.5GW of solar capacity by 2026. This comprises 32.5GW of utility-scale solar plants, 8.5GW of rooftop solar installations, and 1.5GW of off-grid solar systems.

Analysts' data indicates India installed roughly 37.8GW of solar capacity during FY2025. This comprises approximately 28.6GW of new utility-scale solar installations – a 54.6% increase over 2024 – alongside 7.9GW of rooftop solar, marking a 72% year-on-year rise. Off-grid capacity additions stood at 1.35GW, slightly below the 1.48GW recorded in 2024.
