IEA: Solar Energy Will Contribute 40% of The Global Electricity Increase in 2024 And Create New Jobs
According to the "2025 World Energy Employment Report" recently released by the International Energy Agency (IEA), the growth rate of employment in the global energy sector is nearly twice that of the global economy as a whole. This growth is mainly attributed to the continuous expansion of investment in energy infrastructure.
The report indicates that by the end of 2024, the global energy industry employed a total of 76 million people, with a net increase of over 5 million compared to 2019.
Among them, solar energy has become the dominant force in creating new jobs in the power sector, accounting for 40% of the new positions in the global power industry. Just in the manufacturing fields of inverters, solar panels, generators, batteries and other system equipment, approximately 3.5 million employees have been employed.
From the perspective of regional distribution, China remains the core employment market for the solar energy industry, accounting for 60% of the global workforce in this field; while Europe, India, and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region each account for approximately 10% of the total employment.
In terms of job structure, the solar energy industry has a highly concentrated workforce in the "development and installation" sector. Approximately two-thirds of the workers are engaged in work related to the development and installation of new projects. Among them, 46% are involved in the installation of individual residential and utility solar farm projects; the employment rate in the core equipment manufacturing fields such as polysilicon, wafers, cells, and modules accounts for 21% (This article is translated from MERCOM.
